Expire Ads as a Brand

Learn more about expiring ads, like redirecting or blocking access to expired content, or viewing traffic from expired ads and notifying partners. In order to prevent further use of the content you've made available to partners, you should follow these steps.

Step 1: Expire an ad

Once an ad has reached the end of its promotional period, you can expire it. While expiring an ad removes it from the partner's content marketplace, some instances of the ad might appear on your partner's website and social channels. All post-expiration clicks generated on that content will be reported in the Clicks from Expired Ads Report.

  1. In the left navigation bar, select engage-icon__v69b8313.svg [Engage] → Content → Ads.

  2. Hover over the ad you want to expire and select Update.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the ad details, select Expire.

  4. Read the pop-up notification and select I understand, continue.

Note

Expiring an ad simply makes it inaccessible to your joined partners—if the ad code has already been posted on a partner site, the partner can continue to generate payouts from it. If you want to prevent this from happening, continue the steps below.

Step 2: Redirect ad traffic or block access

You can prevent partners from generating payouts from expired ads by redirecting ad traffic from the expired ad to an interstitial page or by blocking customers from following the expired ad link.

Redirect with interstitial

  1. In the left navigation bar, select Content → Ads.

  2. Navigate to the ad for which you want to create a redirect link and select Update.

  3. Select the Available Dates field and toggle-on-solid.svg [Toggle on] Set start and end date for this ad.

    • For Coupon ads, this option will be in the Time Limited Promotion field.

  4. Set the start and end dates of the promotion.

    • If you want to immediately expire the ad, set the end date as Today.

  5. Check square-regular.svg [Unchecked box] Change landing page on expiration.

  6. In the first drop-down menu, select Redirect.

  7. Enter the URL to where traffic should be redirected.

  8. Select toggle-on-solid.svg [Toggle on] Use interstitial.

  9. In the Template drop-down menu, select Custom.

  10. Input the Header and Body text that you want to convey to users accessing the expired content.

  11. Select toggle-on-solid.svg [Toggle on] if you want to Require user acknowledgment.

    • Optionally, Preview your interstitial.

  12. Select Save.

Note

Some ad types have a Fallback to another ad on expiration setting available. For more information on this option, view Schedule Start & End Dates for Ads.

Step 3: View expired ad traffic & notify partners

When impact.com receives click data from ads that you've expired, you can see the details of that traffic in the Clicks from Expired Ads Report. This will indicate which partners are hosting expired ads, making it easy to discover which partners should be notified about ads you will soon be deleting soon.

Step 4: Delete the ad

Once you have expired an ad and notified your partners of its impending deletion, you can delete the ad to prevent any further use of the ad code. To delete an ad:

  1. In the left navigation bar, select Content → Ads.

  2. Select the Status filter and select Expired.

  3. Find the expired ad you want to delete.

  4. Select the check-square-solid__2_.svg [Checked box] in the upper-right corner of the ad.

  5. Select More Actions, then, Delete Ads.

  6. Read the pop-up message and select I understand, continue.
