Gift Card Rewards Explained

Your Advocate referral program can be configured to automatically issue digital gift card rewards to your participants when they achieve a program goal. Gift card fulfillment is handled through Tango Card. You can either connect your own Tango Card account to impact.com or have impact.com set up a Tango Card account for you.

With Tango Card, your participants can:

  • Select from a variety of gift cards by different brands, with availability based on their region.

  • Send the amount of their reward as a donation to their favorite charitable organization external-link-alt-solid.svg.

Set up gift card rewards

  1. Work with your impact.com-assigned Implementation Engineer to determine whether it's best to use your own Tango Card account or to have impact.com set one up for you.

  2. Follow the steps in the Tango Card integration guide to connect Tango Card with your Advocate program and configure your Tango Card emails.

  3. Fund your Tango Card account.

    • To pay out gift card rewards to your participants, you must fund Tango Card directly via credit card (subject to a 3.5% transaction fee) or via wire transfer. Tango Card does not charge additional fees when gift cards are rewarded (e.g., if you issue a $50 gift card reward, the cost to your brand is $50).

  4. Create a reward that issues gift cards.

  5. Set up program rules that govern when your customer advocates and their referred friends will receive a gift card.

    • Refer to Advocate Program Rules Explained for details about program rules or Configure Your Advocate Program for step-by-step instructions.

    • Gift card rewards can be customized by locale and currency. Localized rewards can be set up via your program rules. A fallback reward can also be configured for participants with no locale, or where no locale-specific reward has been configured.

    • Gift card rewards can only have a fixed value (e.g., $25). They can't be configured with a dynamic reward value that changes based on the participant's actions.

    • A reward limit can be configured for gift card rewards to help protect your referral program against fraud attempts. After the limit is reached, additional referrals are set to a pending status, allowing you to manually review them and confirm they're legitimate. Used in conjunction with the full suite of available referral security features, this reward limit can be helpful as a fallback to keep your program within budget.

  6. When participants earn a gift card reward, they'll receive an email with redemption instructions from Tango Card as well as any transactional emails indicated in your program rules.
