Mobile App Tracking Explained

impact.com offers a complete mobile partnership solution to help you drive partner traffic to your mobile app and connect with many of our mobile-first partners. It’s easy to get started with our mobile features—like in-app deep linking, payouts for post-install conversion events, and more—and all of your existing tracking links will be mobile-ready without partners having to change anything.

Part of our mobile solution is TrueLink, which expands our existing tracking technology with:

  • Mobile deep linking from web-to-app, app-to-web, and app-to-app without an SDK integration

  • Intelligent linking from your ads to send traffic directly to your app, or send them directly to your app install page to drive installs

  • Routing rules to create custom redirects and blocks for your different traffic types

TrueLink functionality is built right into our existing tracking links and once you’ve integrated, all of your existing tracking links are retroactively compatible. Mobile traffic can be deep linked to your app, sent to your app install page, or directed to your mobile website—all while your traditional traffic is still deep linked to your website.

Prerequisites

There are a few prerequisites for integrating impact.com mobile tracking:

  • If you’re an existing customer, let your CSM know that you want to add mobile app tracking for your campaign(s).

  • If you’re new to impact.com, let your OPM know that you’d like to start with mobile app tracking for your campaign right from the beginning.

  • Identify a member of your developer team that can work with you and impact.com to discuss the integration requirements, specifications, and implementation.

  • To avoid accidentally breaking your integration, we highly recommend you consult with your CSM (or reach out to us at support@impact.com) before making any changes to settings that you’re unsure of.

Configure mobile app settings

Once you’ve talked with your CSM, your developer, and have received an integration plan from impact.com, you’ll need to add your mobile app information into impact.com. Your integration plan will have step-by-step instructions for adding your mobile app and the info that impact.com will need from you.

The information below is provided as a reference for mobile app settings in the impact.com UI. If you’re unsure of what to do, reach out to your CSM before making changes to avoid breaking your mobile tracking integration!

  1. From the left navigation menu, select ellipsis-v-solid.svg [Menu] → Settings.

  2. Scroll down to Event Types and select Mobile Apps.

The Mobile Apps screen shows a list of mobile apps that have been added to impact.com.

Ad landing page

When you’ve fully integrated with our mobile partner solution and have TrueLink configured for your tracking links, you can configure which landing page to send your mobile traffic to on a per ad basis.

  1. From the left nav menu, select Content → Ads.

  2. Hover over the ad and select Update Ad.

  3. Select Landing Page to edit:

    • Campaign landing page—select this option to have this ad send traffic to your default campaign landing page.

    • Custom landing page—select this option to specify a custom landing page. Select the checkbox if this landing page is responsive and can be viewed on mobile devices.

    • Mobile App—select this option to send traffic to your mobile app install page.
