# Sub ID Templates Explained

Make link customization faster and more flexible with Sub ID Templates in the [impact.com Link Generation Chrome Extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/impactcom-for-chrome/jliaphkmaknmllgfgfifmaciiindcpmi?utm_source=web\&utm_medium=ad-tools-page\&utm_campaign=ad_tools).

This feature allows you to preconfigure how Sub IDs appear in your affiliate links so that you don’t need to manually enter tracking parameters every time. On the setup page, you can create up to three drop-downs or input fields that appear directly in the extension interface. Simply drag and drop tokens (e.g., campaign name, partner ID, or custom inputs) to build your ideal Sub ID structure.

By using Sub ID Templates, you can:

* **Save time** when generating links
* **Ensure consistency** in how Sub IDs are formatted
* **Easily track performance** across campaigns, partners, or platforms

#### Access Sub ID templates

Once configured, your customized options will automatically show up in the extension whenever you're creating a link, helping you streamline your workflow and boost tracking accuracy. To make use of this feature:

1. In the top navigation menu, select **Trackonomics**.
2. From the drop-down menu, select **Sub ID Templates**.

#### Add a new template

You can add your Sub ID templates within your trackonomics program in impact.com:

1. Select ![](/files/VqcpmzMHh7nwfeIDbwTu) **\[Add] Add New**.
2. Within the ![](/files/8sWL7hpIpupIhTbAluAU) **\[Drop-down Menu]**, select between two options:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Dropdown Option" %}
Give this template a name and then proceed to input a unique name and value for your Sub ID template. You can ![](/files/VqcpmzMHh7nwfeIDbwTu) **\[Add]** **Add Another** up to a maximum of 2 times (only 3 sub ID templates in total).

Drop down options can be used for predefined values that are often reused. For example:

* Channel type (e.g., Social, Site, Newsletter)
* Social platform (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
 {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Input Option" %}
Give this option a name. You can ![](/files/VqcpmzMHh7nwfeIDbwTu) **\[Add] Add Another** up to a maximum of 2 times (only 3 sub ID templates in total).

The Input option gives you the ability to add values that are not predefined. For example:

* Newsletter send date (mmddyy)
* Campaign (e.g., Black Friday, Cyber Monday)
* Content ID (12345)
 {% endtab %}
 {% endtabs %}

3. You can preview your Sub ID pattern next. Drag and drop your templates by using the ![](/files/5JEg1cF0IOVdvrp1PO6x) **\[Reorder]** icon to reorder the structure.
4. Select **Save**.
