# Guide to Promo Code Monitoring

*Promo Code Monitoring* is the process of monitoring your promo codes in all the selected regions. This is used for managing the risk around partners promoting expired or unauthorized promo codes and allows for remediation with those partners. To provide comprehensive coverage, impact.com searches 30+ browser extensions, 15+ code sites, and discount subreddits to find your promo codes.

#### Create and manage policies

*Policies* allow you to automate both monitoring and remediation of your promo codes online. If impact.com finds any partners promoting promo codes selected in a policy, the platform will automatically create a violation and send a violation email to that partner.

**Before you begin:**

* You must add *promo codes* to your impact.com program. See [Create a Promo Code](https://help.impact.com/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/promo-codes/create-a-promo-code) for more information.
* Verify that your package includes *Promo Code Monitoring*. See [Upgrade Promo Code Monitoring](https://help.impact.com/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/protect-and-monitor-your-performance-program/promo-code-monitoring/upgrade-promo-code-monitoring) if you need to add this feature.
* Confirm your account's promo code monitoring limit, as the number of codes you can track depends on your plan.

1. 2. In the upper-right corner, select **Create Policy**.
3. Select **Promo Code Monitoring** → **Get Started**.
4. Input a **Policy Name**
5. Select the *Violations* that apply:

| Violations                                                                              | Description                                                                                                                                                                                                                          |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Automatically create a violation if a contracted partner promotes a promo code that is: | <p><strong>Expired</strong> — If a partner promotes an expired promo code, a violation is created.</p><p><strong>Not Authorized</strong> — If a partner promotes a promo code they're not authorized to, a violation is created.</p> |
| Close violations if a promo code is taken down by a partner                             | If the partner removes the violating promo code, impact.com will automatically close the violation.                                                                                                                                  |
| Automatically send partners who have not completed violations reminder emails           | If a partner hasn't completed the action required to clear the violation, they'll receive automated emails from impact.com reminding them.                                                                                           |
| Archive all ads older than 7 days                                                       | Select this option to mark ads older than 7 days as *archived* on the *Monitoring* screen. This helps tidy your view. Open violations, however, will not be archived.                                                                |

7. Select **Next**.
8. On the *Manage Promo Codes* screen, select the checkboxes for the promo codes you want to include in this policy.
9. At the top of the list, select **Include** to include the selected promo code(s). A checkmark will appear in the promo code line item under the *Included* column.
10. When all desired promo codes are included, select **Next**.
11. On the *Policy Summary* screen, review your policy name and included promo codes. If everything looks good, select **Save**.

#### Manage policies

1.    * Existing promo code policies appear here.
2. To modify an existing policy, hover over it and select **Edit**.
   * Modify the selected promo code policy's name and any included promo codes.
3.    * **De-Activate / Activate:** Deactivate (or activate) the promo code policy, indicated by the *Status* column. When activated, impact.com searches for the included promo codes online. When deactivated, impact.com doesn't actively look for the included promo codes online.
   * **Delete:** Delete the policy entirely and free up any used promo code slots.
   * **View Results:** View the results associated with the policy.

**Note:** Deactivated promo code policies still count toward your total number of monitored promo codes — you must delete the policy to reuse these slots for new promo codes.
