# Redirect Routing Rules Overview

**Redirects**, a type of **Routing Rule**, will send traffic to a new destination URL instead of the original hyperlinked destination. When traffic meets specific criteria (known as *conditions*), and, for example, clicks on an ad that one of your partners is hosting, they will be redirected to an alternative "redirect URL" instead of the original destination URL. This traffic can also experience an [interstitial](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstitial_webpage), or a web page that appears before they reach the redirect URL, depending on how you configure the redirect rule.

Traffic sourced from certain partners, certain countries, or even traffic that comes from a set URL (i.e., a *referring URL*) can be redirected. You can also set up interstitials that guide traffic to [download your app](https://help.impact.com/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/blocking-and-redirect-rules/create-app-install-interstitials).
