# Redirect Routing Rules Overview

**Redirects**, a type of **Routing Rule**, will send traffic to a new destination URL instead of the original hyperlinked destination. When traffic meets specific criteria (known as *conditions*), and, for example, clicks on an ad that one of your partners is hosting, they will be redirected to an alternative "redirect URL" instead of the original destination URL. This traffic can also experience an [interstitial](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstitial_webpage), or a web page that appears before they reach the redirect URL, depending on how you configure the redirect rule.

Traffic sourced from certain partners, certain countries, or even traffic that comes from a set URL (i.e., a *referring URL*) can be redirected. You can also set up interstitials that guide traffic to [download your app](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/blocking-and-redirect-rules/create-app-install-interstitials.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.impact.com/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/blocking-and-redirect-rules/redirect-routing-rules-overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
