Chained actions let you track an event funnel by linking parent and child actions. This feature is useful for brands that want to track a conversion funnel with multiple steps.

Examples:

A partner drives a trial membership sign-up (the parent action), and later the same customer converts to a paid membership (the child action). impact.com tracks both actions and their relationship to each other.

A music blogger drives an initial subscription on a platform (the parent action), resulting in recurring renewals over the following months (the child action).

Note: You can only chain actions that have been set up upon the creation of your account. To chain your existing actions, reach out to supportarrow-up-right.

How it works

  • The parent action happens first and must be tracked before the child action; otherwise, you risk breaking the chain of events, and you won’t be able to attribute a conversion to the relevant partner.

  • The child action is tied to the parent action using a common customer ID, which ensures that the conversion is attributed to the partner who drove the parent event. Chaining actions is only possible via this customer ID, and must be passed in both parent and child actions.

  • Both parent and child actions can be reversed individually if needed.
