# Configure Action Inquiry Automations
Inquiry options control how impact.com handles action inquiries from your cashback and loyalty partners. You can send automatic responses when a partner asks about an order that was already tracked. You can also set approval rules that accept a partner's inquiries automatically, so partners are paid on time without you reviewing each inquiry manually.
## Access your inquiry automation options
1. From the left navigation menu, select  **\[Engage]** → **Transactions** → [**Inquiries**](https://app.impact.com/secure/advertiser/engage/actions/view-missing-action-enquiries-flow.ihtml).
2. In the top-right corner, select **Inquiry Options**.
3. To edit a section, hover over its heading, then select  **\[Edit]**.
## Set up automatic responses for tracked orders
Partners sometimes submit an inquiry for an order that impact.com already tracked and credited to another source. When you turn on automatic responses, impact.com rejects these inquiries and tells the partner why.
1. In the **Automatic Responses for Tracked Orders** section, select  **\[Edit]**.
2. Select the  **\[Unchecked box]** next to **Enable automatic responses**.
3. Optionally, select what to share with the partner in the response:
* **Yes, I would like to expose the channel credited to the inquiring partner** shows the partner which channel got credit for the action.
* **Yes, I would like to expose the media credited with the action to the inquiring partner** shows the partner which media got credit for the action.
4. Select **Save**.
## Set up or disable automatic approval rules
Approval rules accept [inquiries](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/actions-and-payouts/action-inquiries/action-inquiries-explained.md) from a partner you choose, as long as each inquiry meets the conditions you set per partner. You choose how long impact.com waits before approving, the largest payout it can approve for a single inquiry, and the largest total it can approve for that partner each month. Any inquiry that doesn't meet the conditions stays pending until you [review it](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/actions-and-payouts/action-inquiries/review-action-inquiries.md).
### How automatic approval works
* **Regular checks**: impact.com regularly checks pending inquiries against your approval rules. An inquiry is approved automatically only if it meets every condition in the rule for that partner.
* **A new action is created**: An approved inquiry creates a new action using the details from the inquiry and the rule's **Default Event Type**. The action follows the contract you have with the partner and your [action lifecycle](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/actions-and-payouts/understand-the-action-life-cycle-and-finance.md), including locking and payout dates.
* **Inquiries over a limit wait for you**: If an inquiry asks for more than your per-inquiry limit, or the partner has reached the monthly limit, the inquiry stays pending. You can then [review it manually](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/actions-and-payouts/action-inquiries/review-action-inquiries.md).
* **Past transaction dates are adjusted**: The new action is reported on the inquiry’s transaction date. If the locking date calculated from that date has already passed, the action’s locking and payout dates are based on the date the inquiry is approved instead, so it won’t lock or pay out in the past. Keep enough funds in your account to cover inquiries that are approved automatically.
### Configure automatic approval rules
1. Hover over *Approval Rules*, then select  **\[Edit]**.
2. Under *Automatic Approvals*, select  **\[Radio button]** **Automatically approve action inquiries**.
3. Fill in the rule fields. Each rule applies to one partner:
1. From the *For Partner* drop-down menu, select the partner whose inquiries you want approved automatically.
2. Next to *Approve Inquiry*, select when to approve: **Immediately**, **After** a set number of days after the inquiry is submitted, or **After end of month** to approve a set number of days after the end of the month.
3. In *If Payout requested is less than $*, enter the largest payout impact.com can approve for a single inquiry. Leave it blank for no limit.
4. In *If total approved inquiry payout for the calendar month is less than $*, enter the largest total impact.com can approve for this partner each calendar month. Leave it blank for no limit.
5. In the *Default Event Type* drop-down menu, select the event type to use for the new actions.
4. To set up automatic approval for another partner, select **Add Rule**, then repeat step 3 for the new rule.
5. To delete a rule, select  **\[Delete]** above it.
6. Select **Save**.

**Example:** You set up a rule for a cashback partner that approves inquiries after `14` days, with a per-inquiry limit of `80 USD` and a monthly limit of `2,000 USD`.
* The partner submits an inquiry that asks for a 25 USD payout. If you don't accept or decline it within 14 days, impact.com approves it automatically and creates a new action.
* A second inquiry that asks for $120 is over the 80 USD limit, so it stays pending until you review it.
* If the partner's approved inquiry payouts reach 2,000 USD in a month, their remaining inquiries that month stay pending too.

### Turn off automatic approval
1. On the **Inquiry Options** tab, hover over the *Approval Rules* heading, then select  **\[Edit]**.
2. Under *Automatic Approvals*, select  **\[Radio button]** **I do not want to automatically approve inquiries**.
3. Select **Save**.
After you turn off automatic approval, you'll need to [review](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/actions-and-payouts/action-inquiries/review-action-inquiries.md) all new inquiries manually.
