# Rakuten Advertising to impact.com: Key Transition Steps

Your migration to impact.com is a single, automated process. Once your account is live, you'll need to complete a few action items so your reversal reporting and partner tracking carry over seamlessly. Complete the following steps in order:

{% step %}

## Review your landing page parameters

Your existing Rakuten Advertising tracking parameters are already preloaded into your impact.com account, so there's nothing you need to set up. This step explains how your legacy Rakuten Advertising macros map to impact.com, where to find them, and two changes to be aware of.

### Tracking templates explained

In impact.com, your landing page parameters are managed automatically using [Gateway tracking templates](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/account-administration/program-settings/tracking-settings/configure-gateway-tracking-settings.md). These templates attach tracking parameters to your landing page URLs whenever someone clicks on a partner link.

* **Dynamic values:** Parameters wrapped in curly brackets automatically populate with the correct click data, such as the partner's ID or the click ID, when a user clicks a link.
* **Analytics and hardcoded parameters:** Your existing hardcoded analytics parameters, such as `utm_medium=rakuten`, are preserved, so your reporting stays consistent. You can update these or add new ones, like Google Analytics UTMs, at any time.

### Access gateway tracking templates

You can access these tracking templates to review or adjust them later.

1. From the top navigation bar, select ![](https://4048883401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FwMLlMoFBtKJa8ptd3zaw%2Fuploads%2F210dEQa93qyQgoJDkieL%2FUser%20profile.svg?alt=media\&token=f84c5b17-fae4-4a30-990a-9de5e57a150b) **\[User profile] → Settings**.
2. In the *Program Settings* column (right), scroll down to *Tracking* and select [**Gateway**](https://app.impact.com/secure/advertiser/fr/tracking-gateway-settings.ihtml).
3. Scroll down to the *Program Tracking Template* section.

### Check 2 things before you switch

1. **Keep tracking active — don't delete these parameters:** Your Program Tracking Template includes key tracking rows that are already configured. Don't remove or rename them, as they connect clicks to successful conversions:
 * `im_ref` must remain set to `{clickid}`
 * `ranSiteID` must remain set to `{ransiteid}`
2. **Link types are now text-based:** Legacy Rakuten Advertising macros show link types as numbers, for example, `3`. impact.com displays readable text labels instead, for example, `banner`, `text`, or `image` through `{iradtype}`. If your internal analytics database relies on the numbered format, let your developer know about this change.

## Manage your reversals

As you transition your partnership program from Rakuten Advertising to impact.com, how you process order reversals, like returns, cancellations, or edits, depends entirely on which tracking methods are active on your site at any given moment. You want to avoid getting this sequencing wrong, which can result in missed reversals or double-crediting.

* [x] **Before switching to impact.com tracking**: Once your account has migrated to impact.com, your site may still be using Rakuten tracking methods, and partners will keep driving traffic through Rakuten links. During this period, you continue sending your reversals to Rakuten, not impact.com.
* [x] **After switching to impact.com tracking**: As soon as you swap your Rakuten tracking for impact.com tracking, you start [sending all new reversals](/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/platform-features/submit-and-modify-conversion-data/batch-modify-conversion-data/batch-modifications-and-reversals-reference.md) directly to impact.com. Any transaction dated before switching to impact.com tracking should still be reported to Rakuten.
 {% endstep %}

{% step %}

## Manage Comparison Shopping Service (CSS) partners

If you work with a Comparison Shopping Service (CSS) partner for your Google Shopping ads, follow these steps so their tracking continues without a gap while you reintegrate to impact.com:

1. **After migrating to impact.com:** Your CSS partners must continue using Rakuten-only tracking links while your site is still running Rakuten tracking. (Non-CSS partners who do not rely on Google Shopping ads can comfortably transition to impact.com tracking links earlier).
2. **The preparation phase:** When you're ready to integrate with impact.com tracking, provide your impact.com Integration Engineer with a complete list of your existing CSS partners. impact.com will configure a dual-routing mapping for you. This ensures that legacy Rakuten tracking links and new impact.com links will resolve and track concurrently post-switch to impact.com tracking.
3. **Post-integration phase:** Once your team fully switches to impact.com tracking, your CSS partners will be certified to run both Rakuten and impact.com links without tracking gaps.
 {% endstep %}

## View your Rakuten action-level data using RAD field names

Rakuten Advertising's Advanced Action Listing (AAL) report and AAL+SKU report use their own set of field names. The Advanced Action Listing w/RAD Fields reports below are the same as our standard Advanced Action Listing reports, just relabeled with Rakuten's field names, so when you transition to impact.com, you can view your action-level data using terminology you're already familiar with.

The following customized reports use Rakuten parameter names to help ease your transition to impact.com reporting:

* [Advanced Action Listing w/RAD Fields](https://app.impact.com/secure/advertiser/report/viewReport.report?handle=18648)
* [Advanced Action Listing with SKU w/RAD Fields](https://app.impact.com/secure/advertiser/report/viewReport.report?handle=18608)

This reference shows how those Rakuten field names map to impact.com's parameters:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.impact.com/brand/what-would-you-like-to-learn-about/getting-started/rakuten-advertising-to-impact.com-key-transition-steps.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
