# Add an Individual Participant, Reward, or Referral

Usually, we receive event participant, reward, and referral information through one of your data integrations or a [bulk import](https://integrations.impact.com/integration-guides/for-brands/advocate/advocate-api/advocate-program-bulk-import-methods). You can also manage these individually. Adding data manually will trigger any program automation such as goals and rewards.

2. Select **Add User**.
3. Enter the participant’s details:
   * First and last name
   * Email address
   * Account and user ID, which we recommend making the same unless the account will be shared among multiple participants
4. Clear the checkbox if the participant cannot receive referrals.
5. Select **Add**.

**Note:** Choose an existing program reward or create a custom one. Selecting an existing reward ensures your notifications remain consistent with your current messaging and widget display.

2. Search for, and select the **name** of the participant you want to add a reward.
3. In the *Rewards* section, select **Add Reward**.
4. Choose from a *Pre-configured Reward* or *Unit-based Reward*.
5. Select the reward or reward unit and amount from the dropdown menus.
6. Select **Add**.

The reward you add here may enter a pending period before it becomes available. Which pending period applies depends on how the reward is configured:

| A reward that is not a pre-configured reward (for example, a unit-based reward)                                                                                  | No pending period — the reward is issued immediately |

**Find the code of the customer advocate:**

This is the participant who receives credit for this referral.

2. Search for the participant whose referral code you want to use.
3. Select their **name** to open their participant profile.
4. From the **Program** selection dropdown list in the *Referral Info* section, pick the referral program you want to use.
5. Select the **Copy** icon to the right of the **Referral Code**.

**Add the referral code:**

2. Search for the participant you want to mark as the *referred friend*.
3. Select their **name** to open their participant profile.
4. In the *Referrals* section, select **Add referrer**.
5. Paste the referral code you copied previously.
6. Select **Add**.
